I am going to do some baling for a neighbor this spring and they want to use sisal twine. The reason being that plastic gets into the wool of the sheep and reduces the price of the fleece. I know I will have to adjust the tension some, but do I need to loosen or tighten it? What other adjustments would I need to make in order for it to tie?

Thanks,
Bob

Bob I have 336 I bought from a friend it had only used plastic twine. The plastic wore on the bilhooks so it would not tie correctly with sissal. I changed the bilhooks and haven't missed a bale yet.

Most balers are more picky about plastic and will run sisal with no problem. Make sure your wiper arm and knife are in good shape, The twine disc should be all right if it's working with plastic right now.

Don,t know as you would need to change much of anything. new twine knifes should help. Not sure about the twine holders if you were going to plastic from sisal might need to take out a shim but shouldn,t need to on sisal. Unless the twine is pulling out of the holders. And another thing you may need to adjust the twine knifes by putting a washer or two between the knife and the peice it bolts to this cuts the twine quicker. Saw a no. 46 baler the other day it had 6 washers one each bolt. That baler had the newer type knifes with the razor blades on them. Anyway my guess is you will see what you will see.

The baler is a IH #27. It bales very good for its age. I am currently using plastic and want to try some sisal anyway, so I'm willing on making the adjustments to give it a try. I misses 3 - 5 out of a 100 and I notices when it misses is when a slug of hay will go in about the time it is going to tie. I am getting new twine knives, since the old one's are pretty worn out.
