Does any body know where to get running gear for wagons? I've been looking around for used ones but they never seem to come up for sale in our neck of the woods (Western Montana).

Northern Tool (http://www.northerntool.com) carries some wagon running gear, and will ship to anywhere. You should also be able to find something at your local ag dealer, and local farm auctions. Good luck.

Jerry, I wish you were closer, here in Tobacco country
they can be found at about every farm sale. Have
you tried finding an old Anhydrous Ammonia running gear? They work very well.

That's my old stomping grounds; there, Noxon, Bonners Ferry. Left there in '81 for USN. Still got family in CD'A, Lewiston. Best buddy lives in Bonners Ferry. Oh how I long for the home place.

I'm over in the Mission Valley just North of St. Ignatius. Don't have a digital camera yet, so it'll be a while before I can post some pics. It's about as pretty a place as I've ever seen.

No problem with that Jerry. You may want to be cautious posting any pics. Everyone will want to move to GOD's country :)

I guess the winters keep the "wanna be's" out though! Thanks for the thought. Just enjoy yourself. I am trying to save some $$ to buy some land back that way to after my boys graduate.

My Dad is down in Lewiston. Jim Sheppard - an old horse trader if you ever have the need for some broom tails. He is mainly into AQHA, mainly running and cutting horses. He also dabbles in the Indun ponies aka Paints.

Ditto on the none available. I have been wanting one for a while to make a wagon to use in the U-Pick.

Oddity - Last yr. while cuttting fire breaks for neighboring land owner I found a metal running gear way out in the woods. It has some 10" oak timbers as the old deck frame. I have asked the property owner if he would part with it and he said sure. I asked lots of folks in the area of who may have owned it. No one seemed to know.

Hoo-Hoo!! Finally got me a running gear!!

Not :( I cleared the brush and got it out to a place I could air up the tires. Got the tires aired up and started towing it down the road (3 miles) to my place. Appparently someone seen it sitting out where I was repairing the tires. Now the gear it is sitting at another fella's place as he claims it was his Dad's. His Dad loaned it to the previous land owner for harvesting tobacco. This has confirmed by others.

Easy come, easy go I guess. Still in the weeds looking for another running gear.

You are a better man than I am. I would have asked if a police report had been filed on it missing otherwise his father needed to take it up with the previous landowner. They may have already have had a deal that paid for the wagon that the son did not know about. Most time things not claimed close to the sale of a piece of property are considered assumed ownership. Besides what is he going to pay you for the time and effort of getting it out of the briars and getting it in good enough shape to tow home. That had to have taken some time and is worth money. What would he have done if the current landowner had sold it for scrap metal? His right to claim it without at least covering your labor cost of getting it out is weak to me.

Shep, there are used running gears all over this area. They can be knocked down to fit on one pallet . . . shipping to Florida from New Jersey or Pennsylvania on one pallet might not be too bad. Hoover Brothers (Amish) in Ephrata, PA, sell new 6-ton gears for around $550. Maybe cheaper if you buy bare rims and put used tires on when you get it. You can even get steel wheels--no flats!

Jerry, go to agdealer.com or ironsearch.com and look under wagons. Otherwise you'll have to look at equipment dealers that have a lot of junk in their inventory. Good luck...

I'd like to have a general purpose wagon to haul hay on and generally transport odds and ends around the ranch. 8' x 12' minumum.

Best bet is to find an amish community. We used to live in Michigan and purchased parts from Miller buggy works in Shippsawana In. Sorta long way for you but there must be some out your way.
