I was wondering if many people use gravity boxes for earcorn. What kind of picker do you use and what size gravity box? Is it hard to unload into an elevator? Right now I use barge boxes with hydraulic hoists. They work good but are starting to wear out. Thanks for any information.

Up until last year, my brother picked a lot of corn in the ear. He used a NI 324, and gravity flow wagons. The approach and setup at the elevator was much easier than flairbox wagon w/ hydraulic lifts, and most of the time, you had to restrict earcorn flow out the gravity wagon.

Been there and done that. Easy to get up to the elevator, but lots of hand work keeping it flowing. Start thinking about shelled corn.

90hp tractor, 540pto, NI 2row 30"trailer picker, 2 135bu graveity boxes(hard to find now), and 40'elevator (with extra 1'skirts or sides) putting 18% earcorn into storage barn.

Used to use 2 small (~100 bu) barge boxes & a hoist on the tractor. Major setup issues for each load.

Now I run 2-3 Parker 200bu gravity boxes. Much easier. Much. Mu Parker's have the extensions on top where the front section can come off so the elevator fits in. Can't get corn to the back of the wagon tho.

Old small elevator I took the incline off & just drove up along the front. Newer longer elevator I drive along the side of the incline. Works fine both ways. 24%+ corn will stick a little, but less work than shoveling out the corners of the barge box.

Every one around my parts used them when they ear picked corn. If the corn was damp it might stick in the wagons but most of the time we had no problems
