You got good help on the math :-). I can offer you the following: A 104 bale stack off my NH balewagon is 6' deep, 9-1/2' wide and 8' tall with a tie tier. With 12' square bents in the barn I net 2 dumps per bent (200 bales). I can gain another 50 bales per bent in the sheds I have to hand stack. I guess in a nutshell 12 running feet gets you a hundred bales and change, 3 wide.

You will have a haystsck approximately 22 cubic feet. 14"x18"x34"=8568 cu.". 1 cu.'=1768 cu.", 12"x12"x12"=1768. Divide 8568 by 1768= 5 cu.'(4.958... 5 cu.' x 2000 bales= 10,000 cu.'. 10,000 cu.' is roughly 22'x22'x22'.

Norm. Isn't 12x12x12=1728? Isn't 22x22x22=over 10,000 cubic feet? 22 foot cubed is a long way from 22 cubic feet.
I get each bale as 4.96 cubic feet.
4.96x 2000=9,917 cubic feet.
I agree what you did was close but maybe Kelly would like to see the answer also.
Take the C/F and divide that by your length and that will give you a combined heigth and width. Pick a width and divide that into the last answer and it'll give you length, or visa versa. Clear as mud in a frozen stock pond? Loren

Thanks Norm.
So if I make a stack 12 feet wide x 8 feet high.
How long will it be? Taking into account the 22 cu feet.

I think I got it. 8000 feet div by 12 div by 8 = 83 foot long stack?
Thats to long. have to go wider and higher. Want to get under 50 feet long.

The important # is 10,000 cubic feet total. (50x?x?=10,000).

If you make it 20' wide by 10' high by 50' long you will have your 2000 bales.

10000 cubic feet divided by 50 = 200

200 divided by 20 = 10

hope that helps

Thanks Ted, Paul and Norm. You too Khayman.
Heres what I have figured.
Build my stack 7 bales wide ( Lenth ways). 9 bales high. Should give me 2000 bales in a 50 foot long stack.
Then with a 32 foot x 50 foot Tarp.
24 12 foot 2x4's = Side rails.
7 8 foot 2x4's for ridge beam.
8 4 foot 2x4 for ridge uprights
8 4 foot 2x4 for cross
24 screw anchors
48 staples to hold bungies to 2x4's
And a big bag of bungies. Cover it.

do you have a height max either number of bales or total height? Any other maximum or minimums that will effect your stack?

Add all of these figures together with 60 old and hungry cows and it won't matter how long your stack is, cause it will be about 22.76 ft. shorter every day you go out to look at it, and you don't have to worry about covering it, cause it ain't gonna be there that long. A no lose situation.
