I posted the following at the MF forum and thought I'd share it here too - as you folks have been such a great help - thanks!

Well for the second year, I plowed my garden with my MF50 Diesel and expanded it twice the size. I use a Ford 101 moldboard plow with it.

This year the plowing went as well as I think it could. I think I finally have the plow settings and draft down pretty good.

I had to deal with half of a garden that has been worked for years and the other half that was unplowed sod. The draft lever has a neat little feature of two knobs. One controls the draft itself and the other limits the fine control range (a slotted plate that limits the movement of the draft lever). While I didn't really use the range very much, the second lever made a nice hand reference when I would adjust the draft. I had to do this so some degree because I was plowing through sod and then into the older worked ground. I made a few passes and adjusted the top link and leveling lever on the right side of the lift arm and quickly had both plows working evenly. The tractor was not under any real strain. I used the throttle between 1/2 and 3/4 full (full being 1700-ish at the 540 pto rpm mark) I also plowed in 3rd gear - low range (it's a six speed with hi & low)

I have read a lot of the archives and posted some questions too - I appreciate all of your help!

Thanks again,
Bill

Sounds like you not only had fun, but accomplished a great job.

I sure like the sounds of the tweaking draft controls. When I bought my tractor new in 1996 I opted to not even get draft control. I've never plowed in my part of the world, so didn't figure I'd ever need it. I kind of wish now that I'd gotten it, but still haven't plowed.

I use a 3 pt. mounted roto-tiller, but sometimes wish that I could use it after a good deep plowing. Hey, want me to come over and finish that seedbed for you? Just kidding.

Best wishes for a successful garden. Thanks for sharing the plowing information.
