I have a Model C Allis with a narrow front. I found a cultivator for a C a few hours drive away. How do I tell if it's the right one? He said it does 4 rows (2 in front and 2 mid). Offhand I don't see how that would work with a narrow front. Any help would be appreciated.

Chuck, the original cultivator on a C was a two row cultivator. There is a set of gangs on each side with long rods from the back of the tractor down the side to lift them, two rods on each side , these gangs attatch to the front of the tractor via a square shaft that runs under the rad and bolts to the front end bolster. At the back of the tractor the lift device is bolted to the seat frame and runs off the small hydraulic ram under the seat. It also operates the back cultivator section which runs down the centre of the rows and works the soil that the rear wheels have just passed over. The gangs are composed of two square tube shafts that hold the cultivator teeth on either side of the row. When you lift the cultivator the two rods move forward as the rear lifts up, these rods swing the gangs up off the ground. The gangs are hinged at the front so they lift easily. The original cultivator has a configuration that is set under the belly of the tractor and the rear, if this is original there is no part of the cultivator that extends past the front bolster..I hope this helps, I gave a C cultivator away last spring or it was going to the scrappers, then I saw one at the tractor wreckers that had come off a C, I think it went to the scrap...there are still some around...good luck...Mike in Exeter Ontario

I was mistaken on details. I've seen it now and your description is exactly right. In fact, I bought it. Hopefully I got all the parts. I have the rear part, rods, gangs for each side, and the lift device for the seat frame. Now to see if I can figure out how it all goes. Thanks for your help.
