I have a 6-18 Model 720- but your 710 is similar. Like Paul says, it's about 3 inches less clearance under the frame. The reset mechanism is basically the same, although all parts are not interchangeable. 710 has some steel parts where the 720 is all cast. Your immediate problem is to reset it. Stand on the left side of the plow and with a 3/4 inch wrench, completely unscrew both bolts that are on top of the white tubes. Do not get on the right side of the plow while the bottom is tripped- it may spring back when you start messing with it. After the bottom swings free, examine all of the reset parts- one is likely to be broken. Probably a piece about 10 inches long with a pin in each end. Might be a broken spring. The springs will fall out of the bottom of the tubes when you remove both bolts. On top of the 10 inch piece is a 1/4 inch plate that sets the trip resistance. Make sure it is there. On reassembly- tighten the two bolts until they bottom out. They do not adjust trip pressure like some people think- they must be completely tight.

Another thing to look for: if you unscrew the bolts and they do not back out- they could have stripped threads and you need to torch them off. They go into a cast 'washer' that turns into the spring. They could unscrew from the spring, causing a reaction like a broken spring. OT:when I think of an addition after hitting 'submit', and go to back button, I lose the whole message. Why? didn't use to do that!

I'm not familiar with IH spring resets, but I do know White/Olivers. You want to stay WAY clear of the darn thing while workin on it, remember it'll push that 16" bottom back into 10" of soil faster than you can blink. It would HURT!

That is an IH plow. As far as untripping the bottom--I'm not sure. Them big white things on top are supposed to be springs to auto-reset it. maybe hook a chain on the back lower side of the moldboard and pull it?? I'm sure others will have better ideas. I'd imagine your springs are broke or something since it didn't trip.

I don't remember, but did IH offer both spring auto reset and hydraulic auto reset? If it's a hydraulic auto reset, it may have an accumlator that needs to be recharged with nitrogen in order to put pressure on the reset mechanism.

IH had the spring reset, and the manual system, called a toggle reset. Don't think they ever had the hydraulic or accumualator system like AC, JD, Oliver, Case, etc.

Yup. Was an IHC plow, would now be a Case plow. 710 was ok, 720 had lots more trash clearance much better for cornstalks, 735 is perhaps the current model with vari-width & such. My 720 is a standard trip which you lift up & gravity drops it back in place, something is not right for that auto-reset (the white tubes are covering springs to pull it back) to not be resetting itself.

That's a spring reset and I would pump some grease in the zerk on the pivot pin and stand back because when it comes back it will with a vengance they were good plows but like some one said the 720 was better for trash clearance and the 735 was the same overhead clearance but was a Hydra wide and could be adjusted up to I think 22" It might take awhile for it to release you might spray some WD-40 around the pin. I'd like to know how it got stuck there maybe someone left it just the way it was and unhooked it. Interesting background.Let's put it this way you'll know when it comes back, STAND CLEAR!!!
