The 504 super I has a double twine tie the G has a single. The pickup reel on the I is not as larger as the G. Meaning the hay does not have to go up as far to get to the bale chamber. The I will pack it tighter if it has the Hyd. density system. The I also has the spilt tailgate design. Both good balers. They operate on the same principles. Drum roller, 2 upper drives and 1 lower drive. Oh yeah the I also as a spiral starting roller were the G has a roller with flaps.

Do any of the MF balers have a split tailgate?

Have you ever heard of a MF or PZ baler with multiple rollers in the bottom? A bit like a horizontal NH BR960? They are supposed to be better at starting the roll. They have about three rollers in the bottom with a 7" gap between the front roller and the belts. Is the spiral starter much better than the flapper starter for hay??

Masseys with a split tailgate: 656,646,640,634 all made by Vermeer. Masseys with multiple rollers in the bottom would be 450 and 560 models they are a closed throut. Not familiar with NH and PZ so I can't help there. The spiral roller keeps the hay from wraping and helps to start the bale in damp hay.

No the ones I have heard about are definitely open throat design with 3 rollers in the shape of a shallow 'V'. The Idea is that the hay conveys off the pickup, across 3 rollers and then is tossed forward like a wave and falls down on the front roller and begins to roll. I think maybe not on MF/Vermeer - maybe on the german PZ balers where they had to change from the patent so they don't pay royalties to vermeer.

Both will do a fine job, but the Super I baler is Newer Technology. The Super I will be the better value in the long run.
