I'm looking to buy a used round baler to work with my JD3010. Is there a web site that gives the specs of different balers. I need to know if a specific baler is closed throat, hard core verses soft core, size bales etc. I'm specifically interested in Vermeers, JD, NH, Hesston , and Case. Any help would be appreciated.

Just post what balers you have found and the community here will give you some information on them.

There are 4 I'm interested in at various auctions in the next two weeks.
Hesston 5500
Case 3650
Vermeer 605f
JD510.

Any feedback on price, size bale, open throat, problems etc would be appreciated. (I have a wonderful 3010 that I will be using to make hay.
Thanks

I can really only speak for the Vermeer. It makes a 5ft wide by 6ft tall bale and will weight around 1200lbs depending on the hay, open throut. Look at condition of belts and chains. Other stuff I think I know. JD 510 old closed throut, 5ft wide. Hesston 5500 old 5ft. wide. I got nothing on the case. If you have anymore questions on the Vermeer let me know.

James

James,
I believe you were thinking about a 504F & G when you stated the weight would average 1200 LBS. In 1980 we baled 208 bales with a 605F baler in one day. We weighed 10 bales on our rock quarry scales certified by the state and every one of these bales weighed between 2000 and 2100.

You need to remember that the baler was near new then, this is 20 years later. The springs could be streched and the Hyd. system could be shot. I try to low ball things like that when I am on these boards since I know nothing about the baler. That way when they get the baler it should do better but no worse than expected. Maybe I should start giving a range for the estimates on weights.

You'll probably have to go to each manf. web page or stop at each dealer. If your looking at that many brands I wouldn't pass up looking at Gehl's products if you have a dealer handy.
