Discussion Forum Format

I had made a change last week or so that made it so you no longer had to click on the [+] to expand a thread, it would automatically expand when clicking the thread starter. I did this because many people don't understand that you can click the plus sign to see all responses at once.

Anyway, some of you did not like the change - and some were overjoyed with gratitude that the change was made!

So I've decided to go back to how it was, BUT changed the [+] sign to say [expand] so that more people might be able to take advantage of it. But you can ignore it if you like the old format.

You'll only see this affect the newest discussions. Can't change the old ones.

Either way is OK. Should not take one too long to figure out what to do. Click the topic, and just receive one portion, or click the + or "expand" and receive the whole descuession layed out.
Anyway, the site looks great. Kim, thank you for a great site.

In this discussion, it now says (expand) in italics between the SUBJECT of this thread & KIM's name. You can see these (expand) links next to the first message whenever there is more than one message in a thread.

Since you liked the new format - which was always available with the 'plus' sign - what is it you like about it? For me, I couldn't follow the subthreads & the indented chain of messages - everything was flat & out of order. Also, if you come back tomorrow, how do you know which messages you have read, & which are new? the old way it's easy to see any new replies as they haven't turned color. The 'new' way, only the first message changed color, none of the replies did so one can't keep track.

I found it confusing, but certainly to each their own, & i would adapt to whatever. I appreciate the effort to keep this place fresh & new & active.

Yep, have to agree with you Paul. I think we've all adapted fairly easily to the changes that have been made since YT first started up. Some are confusing at first, but we get used to them and come around. Although not having a ready means of identifying those that have been read recently is kind of a pain. Guess I'll have to resort to using my own memory instead of the 'puters. Oh well, gettin' old....

Kim, I was one of the first to whine about the new format but really what was bothering me was that the expand did not mark the messages that it opened as read. That makes it hard to go back the next day or so and see what had not been read. If the expand could mark the messages that it opened as read then I would love it. Thanks for the constant attention to improving and advancing this wonderful site....
