I have the opportunity to purchase the mentioned items for $1800 and $1000 respectively. I have 7 acres timothy orchard grass mix and would be using a MM U gas to run the implements. Are there problems that these had that I amy have to look for? Do you think the MM would run these?

Thanks, Mark

Your tractor should have plenty of horsepower to run the 479 Bine. (I ran a 469 with a Farmall H.) However, do you have a moline lift cylinder? I ask, because there is no "check valve" in the tractors hydraulic system that will keep the implement at the position selected. (The "check valve" is in Moline's lift cylinder.) I'm sure there are ways around this like adding a remote control valve inline with the remotes or finding a cyclinder that has it's own valve.

I tried lifting my haybine with using my brother's '48 ZTU and the generic cylinder on my haybine. The cylinder fell each time the tractor's hydraulic lever was released. It has the same system that is on our '48 UTU.

Just something to think about. You didn't state what year your Moline is, if it was made in the 50's might not have any problems. If you don't have a live PTO you should invest in an over-running clutch. It'll help in starting and stopping.

Rake is no problem. The U should be able to run the 479, but do you have a remote hydraulic line to pick the haybine up?

The NH 56 always worked really well for me. I once made a mistake & thought I had the tractor out of gear, & jerked the machine forward with the tires on the rake sliding across unraked hay! The result was before the tines started moving the hay bunched up in front, & through the tines causing the machine to clog up imediately. I tried backing up, & going forward several times, & finally had to pull the hay out of the machine by hand; But again this was my fault! I probably raked 6 - 700 acres without any other problems other than standard maintenance such as replacing broken tines whcich were rare!
