there is a newer?? JD square baler coming up under the US Marshall sale (confisicated drug raid) here this weekend. It is a wire tie. Totally unfamiliar with these types-my question how do they work, why wire over twine, operating cost and the like?-Not interested in buying just want to learn Thanks

I have a 346 wire tie deere baler and for my own use I would prefer twine. Its easier to get rid of the twine, easier on the hands, easier on the back pocket(wire is almost $40.00 a box, and of course you have to have 2). I bale for the public so you have to kinda go with the flow so to speak. I am thinking of gettin a second sqaure baler and getting a twine however.
There are alot less moving parts to a wire twister in comparison to a knotter on a twine. I redoing my rakes now but as soon as those are done my 346 is headed to the shop for some work too to get ready for the quickly upcoming season. Looking forward too it!!!!! !!!!!
Love this hay business!!!!! !!!!! !!!!!
Truckers like the wire tie bales better too so if you have someone coming in to haul thats something to consider as well.

I can't wait to get out and hay either! I only bale about 50 acres with a JD 224T, but I still love it. I see that Bridon makes a twine product to replace wire,, ever heard of it?? Wonder how it works?? Havwe fun!

I used to have a 337 John Deere wire tie sqare baler. Here in west central Indiana, most people want round bales which was just fine by me because they are a lot easier to handle. Once in a while somebody would want some straw sqare baled or a few people around that had a horse or two would want sqare bales. Twine balers aren't too popular around here. You can make a heavier bale with a wire baler. I had trouble with it one time and it was breaking the wire when it would twist the wire ends together. The two hooks that twist the wires are harder than hammered he11 and they had just a slight bit of wear. After changing these it worked fine. This was a very good machine.

JF; It depends on what your situation is. If you are selling it you better find out if you have market first. I have been selling hay and straw for several years and wire tied bales are in my world NO SELLERS. I got a load in last season from another fellow and they were wire tied,he told me different, anyway I was over three weeks finally got rid of those. Seeding contractors don't want risk wire going thru their machines and the horse people don't want it either. Nursereies are same way.I am not saying they are no good it is just be sure you can sell them if thats what you are wanting to do. If for your own use go for it.

Better not tell me where it is :-), I've been wanting a wire tie 338. Only thing about wire, you almost have to have automatic handling, pitching wire bales wear out the hands and gloves pretty fast.

All anyone uses around here is wire. We haul around 25000 bales and only use 1 pair of gloves per person. We also use hooks on every bale we touch. Wire is better by far.

Wire tie balers can pack more weight into a bale with no worries of bale breakage. Also the wire is rodent resistant.

Is this sale in the Midwest? Ask again if you need more information. Mguy.
