I bought a NH 273, looked at a NH 68, Massey 9, and a 14T. This one looked all around the best. With good reviews from this groups in a search. I have never baled in my life but I took a 400 acre hay farmer with me and he endorsed it.

Questions, what manuals are available? Operaters and Parts? This has original hydraulic components, however the fellow said parts were stolen so he switched it to manual adjustment. Whats he talking about? Hydraulic what? and if I want to get the parts to be hydraulic again, is it possible?

Hydraulic bale tensioner. Tension can be set from the tractor seat as opposed to walking to the back of the baler and cranking the tension spring handles. An ag wrecker would likely have what you need - dealer price might be a bit steep. You're lucky it's not the JD, their part prices really bite! HTH.

I havent quite figured that out yet. You have to walk back there to check the bales any way. Why not just turn the crank wile your there all ready.

The tensioner was not a show stopper for him, so that is why I thought it was still a good deal. I cant wait to bale. But first, disk the plowed ground, and seed.

Need a good rake to match my #5 JD sickle, and the new NH 273. Any good models or style to get to help my combo out?

Sure. A New Holland 55 or 56.
If you break some thing on that JD#5 check with me as I have a parts one.
