My turn to ask..... directions are when sitting in the seat and this machine came out after the pitman arm type....has wobble box at end of cutter driven from gearbox/vbelt.I bought a Ford Sickle mower and have installed in on a early 4000 Ford. 3 questions please: 1. I assume the only real purpose of the 3rd member (besides lifting) is to tilt the cutter bar to parallel to the gnd? 2. On the left side is a 1" curved "hootus" that goes up and across the PTO drive and hooks into the last 1/4 of the right lift arm. Has a chain on it and a straight bar with flip lever for fitting into arm. What does it do and how should it be adjusted? 3. It has a breakaway bar on the right consisting of a big spring (3") and a piston looking thing. I hit an object last year and it broke loose (allowed the cutter to fall back about 1') and I saw what I'd call the piston shaft. There was light rust all inside it. It stayed out and to put it back in place (cutter bar 90 degrees from tractor travel) I had to back up to a stump and push against the cutter bar and it sorta snapped back in place....but it doesn't act like it wants to stay. Could you explain how this is supposed to work. Thanks and I love this forum..... going and coming. What did we ever do without it? Thanks in advance for the help I know a bunch of great guys are capable of ..... spring is coming. The Robins came through the place Sunday....it had just rained and the worms were on top....birds had a field day.....thousands of them.....Yesterday they were gone....back home. Mark
