We've had a 1310 for the past few years, and it has performed good for us. They are designed to make a "star center" core, so a extra tight bale is really not possible. As stated, just watch the pressure gauge. The one thing to maintain is that big roller chain. Keep it tight and make sure the chain oiler is working, plus use a good grade of spray chain lube. (we use Schaffer Moly).
The local Gehl dealer tells me that the 1310 and 1710 were the best balers they made, but because of higher prices, fewer were sold.
Good Luck in the hayfield!

My gauge once I kick the bale out is set at about 2 already. Is there a way to adjust this??? Also do you have alot of problems with the twine feeding out the tubes to the bale on the swing arm???? I have to get out about every bale and feed about 1 inch worth. I have tried adjusting the tension and that didnt help. Have you had this problem with yours???

Hello Brad:I have a Gehl 1710 baler that makes a5X6 ft bales.I really like the baler for its easy to start the bales,no plugging, and the bales are tighter.I would really hate to go back to a belt baler after using this one.To make your bales tighter watch the hyd. pressure gauge. When the gauge gets in the red around the #3,thats when you have a good tight bale.If the hay is too dry the gauge wont get in the red.Usaully then it well reach 2 or 2.5 on the gauge.I hope this helps you.Good luck

Brad: With no hay in the baler your pressures will run around 2.But as you are baling and the bale starts to form the pressures should rise. With being around 3 for a full bale.If the pressure isnt raising with a full bale the problem could be in the manifold assy.In my 1710 service manual it says could be bad pressure relief valve,or bad check valve. The twine problem sounds like too much twine tension.Try loosing the tension up some.I this helps you with the baling problems.Let me know how things go and if you need more help let me know.
