When you are doing manure in the pen and your loader bucket seems to roll the manure rather than picking it up cleanly , is this the result of the tines being too short, too long or is there another reason? It seems to me that the greater the accumulation of manure the more likelihood that a big bucket full will roll off of the tines and you have to dig in again. Mike in Exeter Ontario

I'm useing a Case 1816. Machine's small. No big loads here. Got 2 bucket's. choice depends on accumilated hay in the mess-mix.
So here's to the manure bucket. First method tip bucket down and rake small amounts backward. May take a couple/the trys, but ussually works. Second method when the garranteed first method fails, Try skiming the litter off in the same layers it was made and/or compacted. Much like the way we used to clean out the stalls before machines. A third method when the second gauranteed method fails. I hope you're reading this boy. Boy are you paying attention. Back to third method. Try a combination of the first and second. There is also another trick. Try (with spikes pointed down) try ripping the mass apart a little bit at a time.
If your new to this, be patent. You'll most likely come up with some tricks of your ownto pass my way another day.
Oh. Let me add, I often use a material handling bucket if the pack is lite. We use ground papers and wood chips for liter or barn and shed bedding.

Mike, I know what you mean, when you try to tilt the bucket back thinking you have the bucket full and all the manure rolls away from you. I have the same problem and have been blaming it on the sides of my bucket. It's a regular dirt bucket that I bolt tines on and it doesn't work real well. Regular manure buckets don't have much side wall to them and I think they would work better. Maybe some of these guys will part some of their wisdom our way.

It helps pick it up easier if you tilt the front of the bucket slightly downward.

This was a real challenge until the hydraulic bucket was invented. Someone has mentioned the method I used.
