I am planing on replanting about 10-15 acres of old pasture. I've been told a bog disk would be good for tilling the ground. Has anyone had expierence with this type of disk?

Thanks

Taylor-way was another brand also made in Athens Tn. We sold a lot of the International model 19-B harrow with 22 inch cut out disk that did a good job also.

I use an old Case bog disk harrow to break up my
fields when reseeding. It is a very aggressive
disk that takes a good amount of power and traction to pull. I go over the field half lapping
each pass. I only go around once as multiple trips
around will start to bring up too many rocks.
Once the field is broken up, I start harrowing
with a regular double disk to break up sod and
smooth field. My bog is only 6 feet wide, so it
takes some time to do a field.

I've used one for years, mostly on new ground I've cleared from woods. It rips out small roots and rocks that are close to the top of the ground, but doesn't pull up larger rocks like a moldboard plow does. The slower you go the better it works. Make sure it has a place to add weight.

Bog disk is a new term to me. Are they also called offset disks? I need to clear some small brush fields sounds like a good tool

Bog Disks are like the front half of a regular disk. 2 gangs that form a V. most times they use rather large disks, and few in number. 4-5. They can work probably 6" deep, maybe deeper with enough power, but do a pretty good job turning the sod over.
We've never used anything but an Athens Bog around here (NC)-but the topsoil in some places is only 6" deep, with almost sold rock underneath.

In the Mississippi Delta they were called "Bush and Bog Disk". They were mostly used in new ground. Athens were very popular.

Thanks for all the info. Sounds like I'll need to get one. They are hard to find here in central Va.

if nobody knows what a bush and bog disc is where you are you might try calling it a *scallop* disk.

Our local yuppie JD dealer has 2 sets but did'nt have a clue as to the name except he calls them scallop disk.
