Anthony I don't know where you live, but when I lived in western Kansas where it is pretty dry about fall seeding time, a drill in good condition can make the difference of getting a good stand or one that is just wasting seed.

There is more to condition of a drill than just the discs too. If the shoe is worn down the seed is slobbered into the row and may not come up in dry conditions.

The drill you have looked at may be worth the price, or it may be way overpriced. Is it of a common size and spacing that is used in your area? In other words, will it have resale value?
If it is a real odd duck it might be worth scrap iron prices to others.

If you are in dry country at all, then a grain drill is more than something just used a day or two per year. It is your crop, or the failure of your crop.

Well, just my opinion.

What model is it? How old is it? Maybe it is worth $1500. 1989 CaseIH 5100 18x7 double disk (new disks) with press wheels, grass seed box, no fertilizer, just sold on auction here not too long ago for $3000. Early '60s JD FB-B 16x7 DD with grass box, good disks, brought $1200 at another sale.

Most older (50s) grain drills go for $150-300 around here. Most are double disc, low rubber, 10-12 feet wide, grass seeder, trip or hydraulic lift. Old drills work fine- they get only 1-2 days use per year, so age is not a factor.
