At an auction on March 6 there will be a 14T and a 66. I want to know which baler would be better to pull behind a H Farmall or Ford 3000. I want to know the pros and cons of each one. Thanks in advance.

Can't respond to a 14T, don't care for Green. I have and use a N.H. Super 66 and it does a fine job.Easy to adjust, light weight. These are older smaller machines and might bog if you are using a 9'swath windrow in heavy material. ie: long first cutting hay. Smaller pick up head not designed for volume like new ones. You might have trouble with ground speed. I also use an A.C.303
which I like better than the 66.

Running two 14T JD right now. One with one without a thrower. If you keep them greased (I use moly) and spray the dogs before use they work very well. I used them last season for the first time with a live PTO and it ran great. Baled all day long and only lost a handful in the beginning. Also get yourself a package of JD flywheel shear pins to carry with you along with two wrenches in the toolbox. You will break a few until you learn what it sounds like when it works right and sharp knives are a big plus on these. First summer I went to the dealer twice for pins, so last time time I bought two packages. Still have them both. I also have a good copy of the owners manual which gives you the lube points, adjustments, timing procedures, and most important threading of the twine. If you need a copy let me know and we can work that out later.

I have a 14t without thrower that i really like. I would like a thrower though. The manual calls it an ejector and says it only works with 1/2 size bales. How big can you make a bale before it stops working? I dont want to make 20lb bales. How do you like the thrower? Thanks.

Josh

The #1 ejector for the 14T does not rate very high on my list of good things Deere made. 35# bales max for it. It does not turn to follow the wagon on corners. I doubt parts are still available for it. The #2 ejector from the 24T was an improvement, as it would follow the wagon on corners and didn't use the curved ramp setup that the #1 used, but it was still mechanical drive, and some parts are no longer available for it. The #30 hydraulic ejector from late 24T through early 347 balers was much better. You might be able to fit one to a 14T. Brackets from a 24T should work. The only thing would be the flywheel on the 14T. Should have grooves in it for the belts.

Why disriminate? Buy both!!!
If you can only have one. Buy the one in the best shape. If in the same shape go for the 14t.

Chris, The 14T's will actually make and tie a better bale of hay, but you have to be clever to keep them consistant. The NH's are tried and true. Parts for both are readly available. JD parts are pricy, the NH parts less so. I have both an NH S68 and a NH 66. The 66 is from 1954. The 66 is tough and dependable but slow. When you look at it, pay special attention to the chains and the "Wad Board" that drives the hay into the bale chamber. Both NH and JD balers are by comparision in a league of their own. Have fun looking and buying. Jared

Can't say anything about the NH balers but the 14T was a good baler as long as it had enough TLC. Biggest problem with any baler is lack of grease and adjustments as needed. either one of those balers should go for under $300 if they are in good shape. I could have gotten a NH baler a few weeks ago for $25 at an auction but let it go by. As far as the rakes most in genaral are pretty good but get a high price if they are in good shape, At the same auction a NH rake went for $1000

Jim I don't know about the NH balers but the 14T was made some where around 1956 give or take a few years.

I am pretty sure the 14T is newer then the NH66,,I am not positive, but it does look more newer styled , if ya know what I mean..the 66 looks kind of primitive compared to the 14T,,,there is nothing wrong with the 66, and parts are probably cheaper then JD parts...Jim

Also at the auction there is a JD 660 rolabar rake and a 662 Deere, and a 258 NH. Which is better and what would they cost?

All of them, if in excellent condition, will bring $1000+ apiece.

We had both a 14T and a NH 67, the 14T was constantly breaking down and we ended up selling it and using the New Holland for all the baling.
