I was going to buy a 14t with manual in the spring from a friend,,he wanted 20 bucks for it because he couldnt keep it in time,, it comes with new needles as well,,well he called me friday looking for a old Charlynn type PTO hydraulic pump,,he had broke the gear in his, I happened to have one that leaks so he swapped me the baler, manual and its spare needles for the pump. He also gave me some old homemade wagon gears and some other stuff,,,sounds like a good deal to me,,any Idea what might be wrong with the 14T? I am going to use it for parts, but if it is a easy fix I will use it...Jim

Jim,

It's amazing how much I learn reading others questions! I've got two 14T balers, one of which is a parts baler. Even though the good baler is over 42 years old, I plan on giving it a workout. But first, I think I'll replace the chains based on the afore mentioned comments.

I bought a manual on e-bay and found the instructions for timing the baler quite simple. It is also encouraging that there is so much information on this site regarding this baler.

Use it!

Good luck,
Bill

Jim on a 14T timong can be a problem but its most likely because of old chains, replace all the drive chains and they work great, the 14T has baled my hay for more then 20 years. I jsu 2 years ago retired my 14Ts and went to rounds.

To correctly time that baler you need to replace 3 chains. One is in front of the plunger, the second runs the feed forks, and the third drives the knotter. Make sure you have the correct number of links in each chain. Someone has probably shortened one of the chains because it was stretched and now it won't stay in time.

There should be no problem timing it by the manual and they are a fairly good unit. If it has been getting out of time, replace the drive chains, and be sure they are securely tightened and well oiled. Dry, loose, or worn chains would be the most likely causes of it getting out of time.

Follow the instructions in the manual for timeing and if you can get it timed before I re time mine let me know how it went . Otherwise I'll let you know how it went on mine as they can be a bugger to ghe timed correctly sometimes.
