JD 34 Manure spreader applicaton

I plan to purchase a manure spreader for applying chicken manure (mixed with wood chips from broiler houses) to my pasture this spring.
This is a PTO driven spreader with a drum-type distributor.
Question: 1. Will I need some type of litter pan bolted at the bottom in order for the drum to pick up the material so that it does not fall to the ground between the floor and the drum?
2. Does $2250 sound reasonable if the spread is in good condition?

I use a 34 to spread sawdust and horse manure it works great. The price seems kinda high. Most of the ones I've seen in good shape are usually about $800-$1300.

Pass on that spreader. The 33 and 34 JD spreaders were not much better than what they were intended to haul. The stable I work at recently got a 7-year old New Idea spreader in excellent shape from the dealer for $2500, with a 6-month warrantee on it, yet. $2250 is way too much for a 34, which is at least 25 years old. Even if it is in good shape.

There was never a 34 spreader that was worth that kind of money; it certainly isn't at 30+ years old. Find yourself a New Holland or New Idea in good condition, you will be ever so much better off.

I don't know about a pan, but I do know if you plan to spread cow manure with it then invest in a good rain suit. You'll be wearing a good share of the load on your back.
