Using a 1925 horsedrawn Adams Leaning Wheel Grader (Model 1C) to clear the roads of snow. It's steel-wheeled and the blade and wheels tend to get some snow, ice and/or dirt buildup. Tried spraying some WD-40; worked for a short while. Looking for a longer-lasting solution - high-gloss paint, non-stick cooking spray, some kind of Teflon application? Thanks for any advice - hate to be carrying the wide-blade putty knife all the time!

We use ski wax. Works great but we only use it on the blade since it's a 3 pt. outfit but I don't see why it wouldn't work on steel wheels too. I don't know what area you are in but you can normally get it at most sporting goods stores.

Thanks John - yep, I'm in the south-central mountains of Colorado. Should be able to scare up some ski wax without TOO much trouble! :)

Use the cheapest non-stick cooking spray there is. I get "Golden Harvest" from Costco and works great. Keeps the snow from building under the horses shoes and foot also.

The slip-plate is neat stuff, but you have severe conditions and it probably won't hold up too well, especially on the wheels. You'd probably have to reapply after every use. Some guys use PAM on their snow blowers and blades. Be interesting to hear how your experiment goes. Good Luck! Joe Fabregas [email protected]

Paint it with Slip-Plate graphite coating.
You can get it at many farm supply stores or order it.
