Hugh. I beleive the Peter Hamilton company operated in or near Peterborough Ontario Canada, around the turn of the last century, 1900s. They apparently made a large assortment of farm machinery. This company faded into history as did so many. Please tell us what you know on this subject. Robert.

Robert: Problem is I probably don't know as much as you. We had a 2 row turnip seeder I understand my grandfather bought new in 1917. It was designed to plant on hills and pulled by one horse in a set of shaves. Each planting unit had a handle much like a walking plow and you could lift one or both units. Of course these handles and the shaves were made of wood. And on the wood was stamped Hamilton quite clearly. One could quite easily get involved in an argument on the word preceeding Hamilton. I always thought it was Peter. There were those that would argue Hamilton refered to the place Hamilton, Ontario. I still have this planter, however the wood is all gone now. I lived in Nova Scotia and I believe this planter probably came to us there via the Frost & Wood Company. That also doesn't mean Frost & Wood were the manufacturers, They may just have been doing distribution in our area.

Since moving to Ontario I have seen numerous copies of this planter. However as of this date I have not found anyone who knows the source for sure. I will however keep my eyes open this summer at shows and auctions. I now know something I didn't know before, Peterborough.

I didn't check to see if your e mail is exposed, if not send me one. Best thing we can do here is keep our eyes open and talk with oldest guys at shows. Someone will know.
