I grew up on the farm with a NH 270 that only broke down twice that I remember over abot 15 years at 3 - 5000 bales a year!

mobob; Just for your info, neighbor has 14t sitting in shed. work fine when last used about 5years ago. $450.00. I would stay with deere balers in the early years period. Just my two cents

Any New Holland and any older John Deere.
NH 68 ect maybe shy away from a NH66 they still bale but might have issues with the wood wad board.
NH and JD figured it out 1st so you have a better chance of finding a older baler that will do just that... BALE.
You could get lucky with a IH46 or a massey 12 but if you dont have a clue yet I would not get one.

The gist of it is. JD makes better bales but parts cost 3 times as much. NH makes great knots but may have to fiddle to get nice bales. Parts are much cheaper and easy to get.

Also dont expect a new baler for $200 if you are not willing to get your hands dirty learning how to fix it, buy a new $15000 baler.

Not yet there is still a few days to go on the auction. Of course some one with a brand new account bid up the price on me. Funny how that happens. Shills even on ebay.
Any way if the shill dont buy them back I am going to get new ones made at a sign shop as I am sure a old set wont have good glue on them any more. I may make some extras to sell on ebay to help off set the cost.

Something like a NH 271. Kind of user friendly, easy to maintain, good for about a half million bales & even easy to grease.

Ah, memories. I stooked many thousands of bales behind one of those NHs while dad got to sit on the tractor. Hot and sweaty with alfalfa leaves and dust sticking to ya.

I'd take a day of baling alfalfa over an hour of baling clover!

Yes to Kelly & MK. :)

I'd say a NH 68 - 271 would all be good balers if in good condition. JD 14T & 24T are as good. They figured out how to make dependable knots first, and knots are the whole point of a baler.

Stay away from something real off-brand or where you will have the only one in the county. It will be cheap for a reason.

Jims right but you need to make sure that the knotters work well and bearings etc are good or that cheap baler will be a hurt on the back pocket fast. Just to give you an idea what I mean a bent bale needle for a 14T will cost around $150 for a used one. Also what ever you get make sure you have a dealer close by for parts and get a manaul for what ever you have. In my area you can find 14T, 24T JDs for around $200-$500 but you need to look them over good or you maybe getting a parts baler not a user

Ya some times you can buy one cheap, but when you need parts hold on to your back pocket and hope you don't loose an arm or leg.

I have a W9 speed patrol that is getting very weak has no oil preasure etc. it has a WD engine on it so I've been thinking about buying a WC that I know of that runs well and has new tires and just takeing that engine and putting in it and then resaleing the WC with the weak engine. I can get that WC for $950 and I figure the tires are worth at least $600. Jim by the way we posted a couple more pictures on the web site this evening

I will have to check out the site then,,,, I have a rebuilt head for a WD, we bought the tractor non running but with the rebuilt head,,,Was told that it needed put together,,turned out the sleeves are shot. A wrist pin gouged the sleeves pretty bad,,,I have pretty much everything except the frontend and the starter now,,oh yeah,,the carb is gone,I put that on my Farmall Super C that I was using doing hay and I ended up selling the Super C and left the WD carb on it,,amazing how many parts will interchange with different brands of tractors,,,,Jim

Ya Jim with carbs almost all of them will bolt on to other tractors and some times you can get a real power boost by doing so. I wish I had a carb for a 88 or 770 Oliver I'd put it on my 77, been told I'd get about 5-15 more HP by doing so.

Sort of strange how parts work where they don't belong, to bad there isn't a book that tells you what will go where. Bet if some one would write one up the would make a mint or 2 LOL

The Nerd is my 8N with the backhoe, you almost need to be a monkey to get on it the way the loader and backhoe is set up. LOL

On my backhoe you sit on metal, part of the frame of the thing. There was a seat on it but it sat up so high you had to be bent over to run the thing so I removed the seat. Been thinking about putting a tractor pan seat on since it wouldn't lift me up much if any. It was a nice day here, so I had my JD-B, My 801 and 8N ford and my farmall 450 running today. I also moved my farmall F12 into the shop so I can get started on it.

Well where I live its a big tourist trap of a place, in the winter its not bad but in the summer you can't get from one side of town to the other with out people being in your way. Guess thats why I like it that I have a driveway thats a mile long and I'm out in the middle of no where but close enough to town to be able to get things easyly
