Just bought a 605H baler running it in the shop at 15 rpm without the pickup reel or teeth for 30 minutes trying to feel if the bearings are getting hot so I can replace them. Worked the hydraulic string arm out tried to retract arm & the hydraulic lines were jerking ??? Oh yea the big belt on one side was moving side to side ?? Any one with advise please enlighten want to be baler!!!

I would not worry about the belts not tracking right when hay is not in the baler. If you have a level bale in the baler and they track bad to one side then you will need to make an adjustment. Note: The belts will run to the low side of the bale.
Above the gearbox is a Hyd. flow adjustment valve you might need to tune this in for you tractor. Make sure that when the twine arm comes up all the way it hits the arm hanging down to cut the twine.
We have a laser tempature gage that we use to help us check for bad bearings. Just point it at the bearing when it is running and pull the trigger. About $70 from MSC. The two main bearings are a 1 1/2" spherical, that goes in the flanges on the drive rollers. (Vermeer # 212-001) The idler rollers take an 1 1/2" flat bearing. ( Vemeer # 215-003)

James,
The H balers take the Special Linkbelt or Browning bearings on the lower drive roller. It is easy to forget the H's use this because the G & F balers take the 212-001 bearings. Good idea to use the laser temp indicator.
Anthony, these bearings have the ability to pivot inside the cast housings so their will be movement in a good bearing. The first thing we would do to the baler if it were in the shop is to take all the belts out of the baler. We would size them all the same length and lace them with new clipper hocks. The belts should be 512-513" when new but as long as they are all the same length they would work at 506"+. James is telling you correct on the belts.

Regarding your large belt tracking. That is ussually a sign a a splice that was not put in square. Go ahead and run the machine and make sure that as you repair splices that you use a carpenters square to cut the belt for relacing. As for the Tie Arm, were you running the baler at the time. Air is very probable but other than that you mave have been hitting teeth or rubbing on the starter roll. particulary if you have the starter roll with the rubber flaps. nothing to be concrened with. If you find a secret on detecting a bad bearing let me know. they just don't seem to show up until you get the pressure created while baling. But all precautions are good. I have pics of what happens to when bearing failure goes undetected. They burn very well..

Any one know of a good after market source for bearings? I priced the bearings for my IH241 and they are $20 each from IH and thats just for the small ones.

NAPA stocked the big boy I needed for my 605F, got the large flanges (looked like that bearing went once before) bearing & collar for under $20, was back in the field in 38 minutes. I was pleased. You are in enough of a farm country that some farm supply or auto dealer is 'the' bearing supplier for your 20 mile area - you'll need to find that place. They all say 'Hi Paul' when I walk in the door, don't have to give my name when I call to check for parts.....

jerking might be air in the lines. it should work itself out over time. don't know about the belt, maybe it needs tightened. Just bale hay pardner, the 605 will teach you all you need to know.
