I bought an old John Deere 2 row corn planter. I'd like to get a manual for it. Are they available and if so, where?

Horse drawn? Horse drawn with a tractor hitch? Pull type on carry wheels, clutch lift or hydrolic lift? 290; 3 pt mounted? 246-247; front mounted? All questions before you can be given a corect answer.

start looking on Ebay. there are tons of JD planter manuals for sale there every day, most are original and they sell for $4~$10. i know this for a fact.

i know this because i bought a dearborn 2 row planter a few months ago, and i've been looking and looking for extra plates and a manual. haven't found any yet.

Hello Jerry. I have several original operators manuals for John Deere corn planters. What model do you have? Robert.

If it is 2 row and not horse drawn, it is most likely a 290. It would have cylindrical seed hoppers with a notched seed plate in the bottom. The drive would come from chains on the packing wheels or the tires. I think that they used to have the model number on the right side on the rear frame rail. Can't be sure, mines buried in snow.

You need to know what model it is. Then head to a John Deere dealer or contact Deere publications. They have an 800 number, but I don't have it.
