your indulgence to help me gather some components for some extremely remote gate openers. So far I've serched all the wrong places. Trying to find someone to cart my derreire around even the city fringes is impossable. It's no wonder I miss the old outhouse and the santity of researching Sears-Wards catalogue. Help!!!
I need some remote switching, maybe some limit switches. These set-ups have to work in both 12v-barnyard and 120v-outer reaches. I know I can go out and buy an automatic gate. Fine and dandy for the pricy set back. I figure for the cost of one of them I can basicly rube one together, work out the kinks then make some more.
I got to have these. Nothin but a bunch of handycapers around here. Climbing anything is more difficult every day. AND, I ain't quiting. Without something to look forward to, ain't no reason to get out of bed.

Have you tried the Surplus Center? 1-800-488-3407. They sell a lot of those kinds of switches and such. Maybe even an actuator, but those probably won't be cheap new. Those old c-band satellite dishes aren't much good anymore. Heck, my old actuator sat in the garage for years till I decided I really wasn't going to use it for anything. You might be able to get a couple for the price of taking down the old dish. I believe it used a 24 volt feed from the control box.

are your gates meant to keep your four legged critters in or two legged critters out? if its for the livestock you could consider installing cattle guards instead of gates, they are just a large grate that lays in the road bed and the critters will not cross it but you can just drive thru. seen them built out of just about everything imaginable, pipe, railroad rails,channel iron and wood poles are just a few. easy to build and can be made from any salvage materials and any width you need.

I have a thought - but not sure it would work.

I was thinking of an actuator (I think thats what they are called) from one of those big 8-12 foot satellite dishes? Andways, the cylinder type thing that rotates them. I suppose a person could use the satellite receiver and remote to operate it. If not, I think Radio Shack has some basic remote kits. On top of that, you take that big white saucer, throw some legs on her and make a feeder. There has got to be tons of these just begging to be dug up from back yards.

It may involve some trickery to get a kid over to do the wiring for you (or cookies).

Might be? My memory's slpping also. We're NE Flint 15 miles, near Ottisville. We farm 600 acres raising Shorthorns: breeding stock, club calves, freezer beef, leftovers going to livestock exchange. We're equiped in varied shades of green, some orange, old red`n'white tractors, the implements colored whereever found.
My sight's bad. Don't drive and further than the mail boxs I've already been intimate with. Another cadalic (`n' no garage) operation Tues next.
