What is the deal with John Deere hydraulic cylinde

I attend a lot of farm sales and I see good used hydraulic cylinders sell for around $25. If it is a John Deere cylinder the auctioneer makes a big deal and they sell for $40-$60 or even more. I thought the John Deere cylinders (the old ones) were designed for less than 1000psi? Are they exceptionally good hydraulic cylinders, do you collectors want them, or are they worth twice as much becuase they are painted green? Thanks for shedding a little light on this.

1200# and will work with any low pressure system and with those depth stops you don't have to mess with those donuts for depth that you never have the correct combination

that green paint gives off weird fumes that makes a certain type of people lose touch with reality.
I hear tell the residual effect can last over half a century. You can tell the ones who are immune cause they bid on the red stuff.

It is simply a matter of supply and demand. No more old style are being built. They are low pressure, but not under 1000 psi. They will burst if used on newer tractors, but if the purist collector wants his machine to look 'right', he bids it up. JD is the most popular with collectors, so demand is up.

Son, anything green brings extra bucks. Reasons why? People are willing to pay more ( I know, DUH) Story behind why depends on what color the person's cap is who is telling the story. Anyway if you want green you might as well sucumb to the fact that you must pay for it.

All the old ones I have seen have the depth control stops built into the cylinders. If they have hoses on them with the pipe-style ends for 2-cylinder Powr-trol, look out! Bids go high.
