I dont know if an expert can tell with this photo quality, but I can get this NH 67 square baler for a song, and I need a baler next summer.

Can you tell the condition? It has been un used for while, and exposed as it is shown... I can email the photo for better review if someone thinks that it may help their diagnosis.

Thanks

Stu

Looks like it has been sitting for quite some time. It depends on how bad you want to get it going, but if it were mine, I would put ammonia or a stronger rust buster on the knotter, really soak it down as much as you can, then I would put a good anti rust light penetrating oil on it.
I prefer a product from the Federal Process Co. called Free All, you can search them out on the web. It really works.

The parts of the knotter that get a good shine from use, I would get some emory cloth and shine up as much as possible. Get a owners manual, grease it up good. Operate the baler by hand to make sure everything is reasonably smooth running. Then put 1/2 throttle power on it and run for 10 minutes, shut it down and check for warm bearings.

Then you will be ready to fork some hay it it to see what you got.

You may need to take the knotters off to free them up, but I would only do that as a last resort.
Good luck!

Mine sat outside for many years,, someone had put a jack under the end of the knotter shaft and jacked the machine up that way,.,,I didnt know that until I had bought it,,I paid 50 bucks for what was to be "field ready" I ended up using the knotter shaft from a junked 66,, no they wont interchange,, we had to cut new keyways in the shaft to use it,,it works great now though.. if it is under 100 bucks, buy it,,if not walk away,,,,Jim

Stu, I can assure you that in Lancaster County, Pa, you could overhaul and paint that baler and it still wouldn't bring $200 on a sale. So if you can not buy that baler for a song, don't buy it. Nothing wrong with the baler in it's day, but they are no longer sought after in this area. Steve

Well its free, but free is only so good if I can get it to work! I am going to drag it home I think, and see if a neighbor can help me with the timing and scope the knotter.

Well, free is always good..... If it turns out to be a disaster, you can always part it out....

I guess my concern is, to find out its a disaster, do I need to run it and bale? Therefore, I need to have hay cut... or can I get help to scope it out without baling with it?
