Was wondering what anyone knows about this baler. Years made good and bad points. How does it compare to a jd 24t. Thanks to all,

New holland was known for there good balers in the 70s, we had a 273, it was the small model but we managed to get out 2400 a day with it and could really push it if the knives are sharp, my dad used to sharpen and shim the knives often, thisis important, we often baled 15,000 a year with ours, that seems like a lot of work now, help was cheap at 4.00 an hour HYdrostatic tractor works the best on a baler. scott

Hello Iowa Farmboy. The 277 was not a bad baler, but for some reason it has not been very popular. There are also early and late style. The early ones had a gearbox ratio that gave you 66 plunger strokes per minute, while the later ones ran 79 strokes per minute. The later ones had a stronger shearbolt as well as some other updates. The serial number break is 110032. Balers with this number and up would be the ones that I would want. The earlier are ok, but just not quite as good. Hope this helps, Steve
