I am looking for a 2 or 3 bottom plow. well I found a John Deere 3 bottom Hydralic lift plow that is in pretty good shape. They are asking 150 dollars US. I have a 3 point Dearborn disk that is 8 or 9 feet wide. The dealer wants to trade me even up the disk for the plow. I think the disk is worth more than the plow but I know the dealer needs to make a buck to pay his overhead and feed his family. Is he trying to make to much or is it a good trade?

Here in Western Pa. an 8 foot, 3pt disk, in good shape would bring $500 to $800. Dealers here want approx. $100 a foot for a good disk. The $150 for teh plow sounds about right and it is a buy if it has a cylinder. I wouldn't trade.

I have a farmall 400 that dynos at 60 PTO horse power. That makes the disk small for the tractor. I also farm with another person that has a good wheel disk. I have a 2 bottom IH trip plow but one share is missing and I cannot find another one. I know I can find parts for this JD plow that is why I am interested in it. I have thought about selling the disk outright then buying the plow, so if anyone would make me an offer. ;+) Thanks for the info. Moose

At a farm auction _here_, neither would go $150. At a dealer, both would be more than $150. I'd say the dealer is more or less in the ball park.

Do you have several disks? You will need one to level after plowing in many cases, hence the advice to keep the disk & just buy the plow outright.....

I agree with the post below. Keep the disk. Having the breaking plow will not mean that you won't need the disk later. Any disk is worth more than $150. KEEP it.

8 foot disks are getting hard to come buy. Keep the disk and buy the plow.
