Disk Harrow Repair

Need to replace some disks on my IH Model 37 transport disk. Was thinking of a) removing all disks
b) measure and keeping those disk near same size
c) put new disks on front end
d) re-install salvaged disks for rear

Is this plausible or should I just replace ALL disks front and back?

The 37 IHC disdc orignaly had a flat center blade but they can be replaced with a standard blade of 9 gauage, front blades will wear out 2 sets to one set in rear, we have done the same thing

Well ultimately replace them all is the right answer but don't mean that it has to be that way. I can not remember how many discs are on the back of that thing but if I take onw down and apart, it is going back new and not need removing for as long as possible. Now with that said, you are right that the best discs should be on the front. If the hitch is adjusted properly I have always found that the front is doing the most cutting. How bad is the back, half the disc broken. Are you going to be that much better off if you do change them. May not be worth the effort to fix one or two discs. Wait a year or two and the replace them. That breaks up the cost issue and saves labor.

I'd say it depends on how worn the blades are/how much difference in size between them and new ones. Been done many a time "down on the farm".
