I have a 48 model WD wide front and I am looking for a hydraulic disk. I plan to create and maintain food plots. My farm is very hilly so I do not want the added weight of a two point disk hanging off of the back of my tractor. I have located a restored hydraulic disk which is 8' wide. (it can be adjusted to 10 feet) It has new disks front and rear. My question is, will my tractor pull this disk? Most of my disking will be on relatively flat ground. I would appreciate any input from you guys with the experience on the WD's. I saw one person comment that the WD would need duals. This is not where I want to go. Any thoughts?

I think I would leave the disc in the 8 ft position, I have a 8 ft allis disc and pull it with a WD-45 and if you set it as deep as it will cut , the tractor will spin the tires in fresh plowed ground. If your making food plots you might not be plowing anyway ,just tearing up the top few inches of dirt,I think you should be ok pulling it with a WD.

That all depends on a number of things. One, how much will you be using the disc? Two, how worn are the blades you're salvaging? Three, How much can you get a "better" disc for? I bought a John Deere RWA 10' disc last summer. It had disc blades that are within an inch of original size. All the scrapers are intact. It has a "decent" cylinder, and "fair" tires. I paid $375 at an auction. No one wants them around these parts. I still use it quite a bit. I have an old one, just like it, that is worn out. I just "parked" it. No sense in spending a small fortune on parts, AND having to do all the work too. You might have to look a while, but there are some bargains out there on good used disk's. A couple years ago, I rebuilt a Deere model 220 disc. It's an 18'-9" width, I believe. New bearings, disc blades, scrapers, and rebuilt the cylinders. I sunk more than $2000 into it. 2 weeks later, I saw one almost as good as my "re-newed" one at an auction. It sold for $1700. Oh well..... ....John

This used impliment dealer has priced this 8' disk to me at $1000. It has been restored, repainted and has new disks all the way around. He is going to put a used Allis cylinder on it and guarantee it and put on a new hose. The tires are about 50%. He is also including the travel collars that slip around the cylinder ram when it is extended so that it will not bleed off when I am transporting it. Does this sound like a fair price for this piece of equipment? Any help would be appreciated. I am new to this and I do not have time to go to auctions. I am planning to pick it up on Wednesday if I decide to buy it.

Price isnt too bad for around here with all the stuff you are getting. I got a 12' IH for $750 (and thought I paid a little too much, but I liked the guy and he was hurting for $$). It didnt have new pans or a cylinder. Course that was back in the mid 90's before we got cut on tobacco bases.
