Hi all. Can yall tell me what you can about a 848 NH chain baler? I just bought one a few months ago and dont really know much about them? Mine has the air bags with hyd. twine tie. Are they good balers? What size of bale? Do the bales hold up well outside or do they start to squat after a few months, I mean more than a bale baled with say a JD? Also with plastic twine I have a problem with it like missing the cutting knife completely and I wind up wrapping a whole bunch in the middle. Thanks guys.
John

I've had an 848 for quite a few years and I think they are one the best chain balers. They will roll a good tight bale that doesnt sag and weathers well. Mine has electic tie. It starts a bale easy in most conditions. I wish the pickup was wider but for an old and inexpensive baler it does a very good job. As with any old, used piece of equipment, its condition means a lot on how it proforms. I also run a NH 658.

I can't say mush about that one, I have an 850 that works very well but after a few months the bottom of the bales do go flat is stored out side the ones I have under cover seem to hold there shape a little better. Its also a chain type, I use the old style of twin in mine and have never had trouble with the cutter. My baler makes 5.5 X5.5 bales the weight around 2000 lbs but that was with a 100HP tractor so it just played with the baler next year I'll be useing a 55HP tractor and maybe they won't be so heavy
