I have no experience with the Woods mowers but have heard of alot of problems with their gear boxes. As Ray said these mowers have a very hard life so if you are buying used I would shop very carefully and price a new one first, I've seen some beat up used mowers bring awlfully close to new price. When we bought a 15' batwing last summer we bought a Deere HX-15 but also looked at the Bushog 2615, due mainly to dealer service we went with the Deere. I do know that in a 15' batwing mower the Bushhog is over 1,000lbs heavier than the Woods.

First inspect for general damage. Those things live a tough life - especially when used for roadside maintenance. Check hinge areas for looseness and wear. Check bearings for looseness. Drivelines get a real beating. Check all ujoints, slip-sleeves, etc. Check for excessive looseness in any gearboxes too. If shear pin equipped, look for enlarged holes where pins go. Probably missed some points - Anyone else got some helpful input?
