Round Balers Again!

Thanks guys for the help on previous posts. I checked out a used equipment lot that has a couple of balers available. I know the New Hollands are good balers and he has two chain balers available the 850 and the 845. Looks like the 845 is a little smaller than the 850. What size bales do these things make? What should I look for on these?

There are also two New Idea balers there. One is the 4845 and the other is the 484. The 484 looks like an older baler - it is gray. The 484 looks to be in great shape. Is this something I want to stay away from? Anything in particular to look for on the New Idea?

Warren I will check on the the date for Scott implement sale at platteville for you. Ok From what i have seen on balers is that the 850 on dealer auction this time of year will run about 1000. The smaller 845 will run up to 1500 depending on condition and the fact more of the smaller stuff goes to mexico and east it may bring more. The 2 new idea baler you ask about are both good size units one is just a newer version of the other. But, talk to a new idea dealer the seem to be hot ones. The new idea was also tagged as Case IH tooand on them I saw a warning tag stating they like to catch fire. The New Idea balers are a soft center baler and can bale slightly dammper hay. Let the bales set in the feld a few days and they cure. We run a OMC 590 same as a gehl 1310. This is a drum baler. Takes little power to run. They are great with a little mod to save some head aches. Our c ame from hennessy's about 14 yrs ago. So far I think i have put close to 7500 through it. Nice easy to handle bales.
Feel Free to call me too if you need more info. I have been doing the auction sales for a company that prices equipment since 92. Just got my wife started this last summer helping too.

Thanks for the comments and the offer to help. I may take you up on that offer. It looks like the NH 845 may be the one for me, but if the New Idea 484 is in good shape, it may be a tough decision. I plan to be at the Hennessey sale, so maybe we can meet up there. Where are you located? I will try to give you a call later.

845 makes a 4*5 bale. makes a good bale that stands up well. I pulled with a 45 hp tractor. I disagree with the previous comment saw one sell yesterday for 1600 and i am still kicking myself for not buying it. Check the lots to establish retail you can't find anything under 1500. As far as a quality control just make sure the big chains on the outside are not wore out and the floor chains look good.

I can show you auction reports from all over the USA. Showing the winning bids. We have a large auction in our area Lady & King, Bluff City, TN and we are ther every auction and many times the 850, 851, & 845's do not even get a bid.

The 845 is a newer baler than the 850 but at best $500 is all they would bring.The NI 484 would be a better choice than the chain NH balers unless you find a NH 848 with air bags. That would be a better choice than the NI 484.

I have an 850 Nh and it seems to be a good baler other then you need about 55HP or bigger to run it, it makes 5-1/2 vy 5-1/2 bales. Last year I used a big tractor on it and made some bales around 2500lbs with it, to heavy but any how its good

Hay, you fellers had better hold up on buyin' those round balers!! I heard the Feds are going to outlaw them, and make you farmers go back to the square bales! Seems the Government feels that the animals can't get a square meal from those round bales!! RJ
