If you are near a fair sized city, the local police department will probably have some bicycles and parts that you could salvage from.

Bikes are stolen, abandoned, taken to the station, held, and never claimed.

Garage sales are also a good place to get old bikes, but of course you will probably have to take an entire bike to get one wheel and tire.

I think that a 24" wheel will probably be from an older childs bike, not the modern kids bike.

Never though about the cops.
Been picking up 26" bicycles on trash days. The molly frame steel comes in handy for other projects. Also great soarce for AT, their tires and parts support.
I'll pre-bark a bictcle in various fields prior to field work. Good AT saves a lot of time consuming walking after a breckdown.
Thanks

Good idea. I keep a bicycle and helmet stored in a shed at my farm (I live in town.).

I have a bit of a funny bicycle story.

At least two decades ago a friend called me from a pay telephone at about 2 a.m. He asked if I could take him to his pickup that had broken down out in the country, and tow it to town.

When I met him he eventually told more of the story. He had used his pickup to help the wife of another man move out so that she could leave him.
The pickup had broken down on the way back home, a few miles from the home of the woman. He didn't want the man seeing his pickup, so rode the 7 miles or so into town, on a bicycle that he had bought for his grandaughter that day

Because the bicyle obviously didn't fit, he was so sore he could hardly walk. What is the saying? No good deed goes unpunished.

After divorces the man and woman eventually married. I never saw the woman as happy in all the time I had known her, and she was that way until he died.

Fit's important (or is it impotent?). Not to many folks can reach my pedals from the seat.
