All the years I have spent around farms and farming and I finally got a chance to use a turning plow. The plow was a mongrel of unknown descent, a single plow with a goobered up 3PH that was borrowed from a friend. I managed to get it to turn up the 3' strips that the suburbanite new home owner (old friend of family - the kind you help out even as you wonder why you are going to so much trouble for them) was wanting. Alternating 3' strips about 60' long for raised beds in the spring. One year old cleared lot but surprisingly little roots to snag.

Now I understand the discussions about properly setting up a turning plow and how to get it to lay the rows out correctly. Wish I had about 10 acres to play around on and a good plow to do it with. My little Ford 2000 SOS is a little light for the task but it made me proud.

There is something about seeing the earth turned up and the smell of freshly worked soil that speaks to the soul. My years on the tobacco farm saw us using heavy disks and Rotavators, never a turning plow. Kinda neat to finally get the chance. Put alot of what I have picked up on this board into the old gourd and got a chance to dust some of it off and use it. Thanks to all for the education.

And the wife wondered why I came back with a big grin..... .

Well drive on over to the other side of the county and pick up my Ford 101 2-16 plow anytime you can find the land. You are always welcome to use it. That 2000 will handle it. Come on over witha trailer and I will pick it up and set it on there. It is sweet to look back there and see that dirt roll over....
