Hay wagon prices

I have a pretty good ole hay wagon that i dont need anymore, went to bale stacker wagons. it is 16 foot long, and about 8 foot wide. the bed is made of oak, and built right (the decking runs the length of the wagon, which are fastened to 4x4 crossbeams, which are fastned to the runners) the bed is mounted on a Korey 5 or 6 ton gear, that is in real good shape. Follows down the road real well. pretty decent tires all the way around. all bearings have just been repacked and the front end gone through (tie rod ends, bushings, and bolts) I am cosidering selling this wagon, and was just wondering what it might bring. thanks, Harry

I just got done with my wagon. I bought a chassis from a salvage yard for $50. I sandblasted it and painted it with the DuPont paint recommended in this web site. ($200) I then laid (3) 2X8's lengthwise and nailed 1" porch boards across. I put 2X4's along each side, a 5 ft rack in back and a 4 foot rack in front. Cost of wood was about $180. Fortunately, the tires and bearings were all good, so no expense there besides the labor to pull them down, clean and repack them. I slapped on some reflectors front, back and down the sides. ($50) I would guess that I have $500 or slightly more in doing my own trailer. Thought this might help you to figure a price for your trailer. Good luck.

Harry that's a tough call, I've seen a wagon go for $600-$700 at an auction when two guys want it, I've seen them go fo$200. I would think the running gear is worth $300-$400, then the rack on top....$500 range? I hope I didn't insult you but that's what decent hay wagons go for around here. I did buy a running gear for$100 and put 4 used tires on it, then built myself a rack that cost over $275 for material..I wouldn't take less than $500 if I was going to sell it...then a good 6 ton wagon new is around $1500....good luck.....Mike in Exeter Ontario
