Horse drawn machinery values

Does anyone know of site to find values of shed kept horse drawn machinery. Have come across several shheds full of these items and are in very very good shape. Spreaders,buggys,sleighs,mowers rakes and on on.

Rick,

Value depends on where you are at, make, ect. In my area of Wisconsin (there are quite a few Amish by me) a good New Idea #10 spreader will bring from $500 to $750. If it has been re-built I have seen them go for $1,000 to $1,500 on a good day.

If you like you can e-mail me a list of what you have found and I will do my best to price them out for you. On the mowers please let me know how long the cutter bar is and what kind of gearing they have. On McCormick-Deering that can be found on the tool box lid.

You are correct about the spreaders. I bought a Model L JD for $35 and next to it was a restored McD that went for $1000+. Also Rick, if you don't mind, where are you located. I need a shoe for my spreader. And would like to find a side rake. Have seen a few at auctions but bearings are shot, as they almost always sit out in the elements.

Where up in Vernon County are you at? My dad was born and raised up in that part of the coutry.

I'm located over in Marquette County. A little town called Germania. Fifteen houses and 1 tavern. I just moved over here 4 months back. Got tired of all the BS over in Cambria over my horse drawn "toys".

Those items are hard to value. I bought a dump rake and a single bottom plow off ebay for $50 each. Items like that show up on ebay fairly often and rarely sell for over $100. Although I suspect part of the problem is in the size of the item and distance to get it. It is a matter of finding the right person who wants what you got at a price you both think is fair. Anything John Deere if the name is legible will bring more.

I don't know of a comprehensive list of what horse equipment is worth, but in my area, (New Jersey), horse-drawn sickle mowers, if in working order, fetch $200-$500 each, sometimes more. (We are not far away from Pennsylvania Amish). There are two mowers on eBay right now from Somerville, NJ that have $200 bids. New Idea 4-wheel horse spreaders, in particular, are worth $1000+ in good condition. Because of all the interest in recreational horsekeeping in my area, buggies and sleighs bring very high dollars.
