Brian, John Deere provided a number of hitches for each plow depending on conditions and preferences. For instance, the popular #55 series plows could be had with several different cushion spring release hitches for different tractors and years of mfg. then there was a pin break hitch and a plain hitch and a safety release hitch provided by the Holland Hitch Co. The "knee knocker" was either a cushion spring hitch or a cushion hitch. Both designed to work with a clutch release mechanism for the tractor. These were used with hydraulic cylinder lifted plows to avoid the mess and bother of pulling the hydraulic hoses out of the power-trol. By the way, there are clear instructions that tell how to adjust the operating rod from the clutch lever to the fork shaft, to provide a safe clearance between the released lever and the operators right knee cap! From the constant comments about the sore knee, I guess it was too much bother to make the adjustment, or nobody read the book. I guess if you want an answer to your question it is "Lots", or dig out all the plow parts books and count them up. IMHO it's a good question. Bob
