stacking with bale accumulator

A while back there was a large discussion on moving small square bales. The accumulator seems to get great reviews. How do you stack a wagon if you are using an accumulator? Don't the bales all face the same direction? It seems like you would need to turn every other layer to keep them from falling over. You could not move the tractor 1/4 way around the trailer and still reach the stack. Does the loader attachment rotate to help stack? My new JD calendar shows a wagon being loaded with an accumulator/loader. A close view of the wagon shows the bales alternating. How did they do that?

I have a Farmhand accumulator and 2 sets of bale forks. I can pick them up both ways if I want to tie the stack. When you are doing this you must make sure your bales are tight or you'll be picking up odds and ends and restacking. This is an excellent piece of equipment and saves 100's of hours..... ..... ..

The grabber I use will pick hay turned either way so you can tie the layers. On most of our trailers we have three sides so no need to tie.

I don't have an accumulator, or maybe that would have been obvious to me. Just pick them up the other way; never thought of that!

I do it aLL the time. It all epends on what you have. If I have backboards then I stack straight. Otherwise I offset 3inches or so next layer. The units I use I putt 44bales to layer and go 6 high. Let me know for further details.

Some of the loader forks rotate (I think Steffen Systems has that as an option).

It does rotate. I bought one at an auction last fall. That's the ONLY thing I like about it though. It has WAY too many moving parts, that look WAY too frail. I'm sure that it would be in pieces by the end of a hay season. I bought it with a baler. Luckily, my Brother-in-law wanted the accumulator. He's the proud owner now. With my luck, it'll be the best piece of equipment that he owns, and will last forever. Then, I get to eat my words. John

I don't know of any way to alternate the layers. We always just put all the bales on the same way and then strap them down with ratchet straps. Doesn't take very long, and is easier than reloading a wagon after it dumps.
