New Flu

The bubonic plague is said to have started in China. It was supposedly spread to western Europe when ships from China docked and the flea carrying rats went ashore. Nearly half of the western European population died. This was during the 14th century.

While influenza is generally respiratory, most everyone always thinks of it as being intestinal.
Of course there is an intestinal flu also.

The way they do their agriculture over there, a lot of starnge viruses come about. With international airplane travel moving people anywhere in 20 hours or less, there are no protections any more. Several 10's of thousands of people die from these every year.

And yet we get excited about mad cow disease, that has killed less than 500 people in Europe in decades.
