Trailering NH 488

I need to move a NH 488 about 100 miles on pretty major roads. I want to put it sideways on the trailer and take the tongue off. I want to rent a trailer to haul it, will a utility trailer work, or do i need a deck over trailer? I estimated that the mower weighs about 3000? Is this close? Thanks for the input.

Hey Josh,
I have pulled a 469 and a 488 more miles on the road than I really care to think about. My question is that by the time you go to all the trouble of loading it, renting a trailer and then unloading it, not to mention the time to pull the tongue and pto off, no farther than you have to go I would just hook up behind the truck and pull it home. Wouldn't hurt to have 2 trucks or at least another vehicle following as a emergency vehicle. I admit hauling would be nice but study the altenatives of just taking the time to tow it home.

Josh,
If you know anyone who has a roll back type wrecker (hydraulic flat bed) these work great for loading and carrying these machines. I moved one last year with one. It was super easy. I don't know if you could rent one or what someone would cahrge to go 100 miles with one. Just a thought. Good Luck.

I forgot to add that at the loading site there is a large enough loader to pick the whole thing up and sit it on the trailer. At home i have a smaller loader and was going to use it and another tractor to slide it off gently.

If you have two loaders available at home, consider putting one on each side of the trailer, lifting the machine, and driving the trailer away. Easy way to handle big, heavy loads.
