Neighbor has an old drill,wood box (rotten),wood tounge(rotten) that says on end of box Fertilizer Grain Drill American Seeding Machine Co. Springfield,Ohio.It has 8 down spouts on it and looks to be be about 7-8 foot wide. The metal parts seem to be in good shape (no cracks and the disc still turn). What is this old drill worth. Is it collector material or just junk? Any ideas would help me alot. Thanks .

The cast iron drill ends bring quite a bit of money on e-Bay. The rest of the drill is junk, unfortunately. Even if the thing had been kept inside, they just don't seem to bring money as one unit. I've seen several nice drills get bought at auction for $100 or so, and the people take the wheels and ends off and leave the rest there. (now at the last sale I saw one, the owner was wise to this practice, and had the auctioneer announce that if the drill in its entirety wasn't moved off site in 7 days the high bidder would be charged a $200 disposal fee. The drill went for $100 and it was hauled away complete).

I use the cast ends with the company's name & logo to make foot-stools and cast hoe drill openers make hang up vases for artificial flowers. You should also look for a cast tool box or lid for that drill (also collectible)

Tim(nj) - I've used Massey Harris hoe openers because they have MH cast into them and a convenient hang hole in the opposite side. They make very unique artificial flower vases.
