Hi I have just brought a New Holland 276 and on the first outting broke 2 of the aluminium forks that push hay into bale chamber, what i was wanting to know is if it is worth welding them back together as I hav found both parts I can weld them myself but if its not going to be sucessful I will jus buy new ones at $35 each

Was looking at mine the other day, wondering if I couldn't simply make up some from aluminum stock. I'm guessing here but assume they're made of aluminum so if they break loose, and go thru the knife, damage will be minimal. Can anyone confirm this?

After you weld or replace the stuffer fingers be sure you check the timing on your baler. I have a 271 baler and have only broke my stuffer fingers twice. Once because I picked up a large block of wood and the other time some how my baler "got out of time". Hope you have a manual. It should explain how to "time" your baler. I check the timing on my baler before every hay season.

Goodness gracious Andy, just how expensive are things in New Zealand? Here in the States, that would almost buy you 4 of them. As far as welding them, I'm not sure you can. I doubt that they are made of pure aluminum. Steve

You could weld them but unless you put fish plates on them you will be replaceing them or rewelding them again. Hope you know what I mean by fish plates

I don't know much about welding aluminum, but as much movement/vibration as these forks have, I would probably put new ones on unless you can find some used ones somewhere.
