I have a Badger single stage 3ph snowblower. Its all there, complete, but used. I got the operators manual for it and see that its for 35hp to 75hp, 540 rpm pto. I have it on my 720 diesel, perfect match you would think! I lubed it up, replaced gear oil, sanded and painted the chute since it was rusty and then it snowed about 8". I was so excited send the snow flying but no, the stuff just got stuck in the chute and plugged. It was soft light powder snow too. The auger still spun at full rpm, but it just threw it backwards and pushed it like a blade. Disappointing!!!!

Any ideas guys, I would really appreciate it.

Stu,three things to consider when picking a snowblower, speed of reverse gear or gears,hp,and size of blower. I think the 720 might be to fast in reverse for a snowblower,a common complaint with old 2 poppers. Don't get me wrong they are great tractors as I own a couple of them but they are a little to fast in reverse to blow snow without slipping the clutch and I don't think you want to keep having to do that all day as that could get costly. That plus the single stage might be part of your problem. I am using a farmall 504 on a 90inch lucknow and the combination works great not because of hp but because of the slow reverse plus the torque amplifier to slow it down more yet and I mean it will crawl.I have other tractors that are bigger with more hp but they just don't have the right reverse gear. Just my experience and sorry for the long post

Since you say it is single stage it could be a snow blower if it is of the V type intake or a show thrower if it is a spiral wound around a tube. If the snow is wet any single stage machine will clog. Some two stage machines seem to handle wet stuff better. I use both types and have found at times it is better to let wet snow lay overnight to "dry out" or freeze up and then try to move it. Experimenting with it will help you find what works best for you.

it's not a snow blower,it's a snow thrower.there's a big difference.a blower blows air and any snow you mix in. a thrower has to have something to grab onto and heave. i had one like yours for 20 years and wore it out,but i wouldn't buy another one. you'll find it does much better in hard, heavy snow.until then, have a nice aggravation.
