I keep looking at my parts JD 14T baler and can't yet bring myself to start stripping it of parts! It is really rusted-up from years of sitting in the weather.

When a baler is in such a condition (including broken chains and springs), how can one of these things bale when the knotters are covered with rust?

On a set of knotters, what needs to be clean and shinny prior to baling? I guess I need to start somewhere.

Thanks in advance,
Bill

I'd start at the JD dealer and get a book if you don't have one, its well worth it since there is a lot of stuff to make an old 14T work right. If you live close to me Ihave 2 for parts

the bill hooks have to shiny and smooth. the rusty chains will need to be replaced. sealed bearings will be rusted and will fail once you start to run it. I would not even try to get a rusted baler running again. just too much work and expence.
