Well after taking in all your suggestions i went and looked at a 479 nh mower.its a little rusty and has the chain missing that drives the bottom roll.i asked him if it was possible to power it up and he said that since it was cold out he wanted to bring it in and lube the chain check the gear box and the sickle.it also had a flat tire.so i said thats fine and told him to let me know on monday.talked to him and he said that he put a new tube in the rear tire and had his setup guy go over it and everything ran good.so we talked and he's gonna let me have her for 900.00$ now all i got to get is a rake and then i'll be set.he told me he would get me a book for it too.
gonna stink dragn it 85 miles home though.

Make sure your tires are decent and MAKE SURE the wheel bearings are good enough to tow that that far. Trust me, it is not fun stuck along side the road with a blown tire or a wheel that just fell off because the wheel bearings went bad. Have fun!! Steve

You are so right Steve He should remove each wheel, ck. bearings and repack them it has been my expearence even when new New Holand does not waist grease on wheel bearings. I learned a long time ago to repack wheel bearings even on new equipment.
