Mike, I do not recollect the person's name that I talked to at AT Ferrell. I did not purchase the manual as the fanning mill is rather easy to adjust if you have ever been around a combine. To slow the rate of material working down the top screen, I have played with the angle of the unit by blocking the fan end up by lifting the unit up and then placing some 2X4's underneath. The fan speed adjustment is acomplished by changing the flat belt to the various size pulleys. There is also an air intake adjustment done with some sheetmetal shields on the sides of the fan housing. My unit has had an electric motor installed and the fan belt needs to be twisted to get the correct rotation. The only other adjustment (other than changing to a different size screen)is the opening in the bottom of the feed hopper to control the amount of material entering the fanning mill. If you want some digital photos of mine, e-mail me at o'[email protected]

Heat Houser do you remember to whom you talked to, or do you have a manual that I could Purchase a copy from? After all the comments I am going to get this old gal going!

I have an old 2B Clipper Fanning Mill and two years ago I ordered some new screens for it. I recollect that they were around $55.00 US each.
They offer various sized screens, the flat fan belt, and the manual. A T Ferrell is the company to call.
The screens for a 2B are roughly 2 ft X 2 1/2 ft.
All sizes of screens are described by 64's of an inch. If you order a size 13 for example, this means the holes are 13/64 inches wide. If you do soybeans, the top screen will have round holes to allow the beans to fall through, (pods stay on top) and the bottom screen will have slots to allow the splits to fall through.
All the other parts you could make with a sheet metal brake and some woodworking tools.

Heat Houser,

I think a 2B is what we had some 50 years ago (see below post). Was I having "fuzzy memories" when I stated that two men could pick it up and load it into a pickup?

Two men can pick it up and load it. They are neat little units and are fun to clean seed with. (As I recall, I didn't think it was too much fun when I was a kid)

We have a Clipper that we still use to clean seed beans and wheat. It works pretty good for being 50 or so years old. The one we have is quite large, like the one someone else mentioned, about 8-10 ft. tall, 5 ft. wide and deep. As far as info., I am not sure, we can find basic parts at various shops around us. Good luck. JWW

Dad raised Certified seed oats for several years in the late '40s and the '50s. We had a Clipper "Fanning Mill" (as we called it) and it did a great job of cleaning the oats. As I remember, we used it on some clover seed a few times, too.

I took a look at the website mentioned in the below post, and the Clipper they show there sure doesn't look like the one we had. Ours could be picked up by two men and loaded into a pickup. I hope that company has some literature or instructions that will help you.

Stan: Clipper made some quite large machines. The Agricultural Society in my home town had one that was close to 12 feet long 6 feet wide and 10 feet high. At first glance you would think it was a thresher.

I have seen one of these machines in a equipment shed once. They are really impressive once you realize what it is you are seeing.

Hugh,

You must remember that machinery grew quite a bit between the time I was a kid and when you were a kid - LOL.

The company is still in business, and while I have no idea of what information is available, here is their website, with contact information.

Someone asked this question a while back, and I don't know if they were helped or not. Please post back and let us know if they can help you.

Had one years ago. If you have the right screens and know how to set it up, it's great. Unfortunately, since I no longer needed it, I let it go at an auction about 15 - 20 years ago. I think it brought $15. Sure would like to have it back!
